Making of the Cabin
Crater Lake
Rogue River

There are many local activities located near the cabin besides visiting Crater Lake National Park.

Mill Creek Falls and Barr Creek Falls Trailhead a few miles  from the cabins.  It is also the trailhead for Avenue of the Boulders.  Mill Creek and Barr Creek both fall about 170 feet into the canyon of the North Fork of the Rogue River.  They are viewed from the opposite side of the canyon.  Continuing on down the trail to the canyon bottom itself, you will find yourself in the Avenue of the Boulders.  The Rogue River has carved it's way through huge boulders to create an amazing natural phenomenon well worth seeing.  The trails are only 1/4 to 1/2 mile long and an easy walk.

Pearsoney Falls Trailhead  located just across the highway from the Prospect General Store.  The trail winds down through the north side of the north fork of the Rogue River and is a quiet, cool walk in the heat of the summer.  Pearsoney Falls is about 1/4 mile down the trail and if you continue on you will find yourself looking down on the Avenue of the Boulders from the north side of the river.  There is also a great view of the bridge that crossed the north fork.  The canyon is awesome in the summer when the water is low but the winter and spring thaw offers fantastic views of the high, rapid water pouring down through the mighty North Fork.

Lost Creek Lake is located 3 miles from Big Tree Cabin and about 11 miles from Red Blanket Cabin and is a great place for fishing, boating and swimming. The marina located there has a small restaurant, fishing supplies and boat rentals.  There is a small grocery with gas located just a mile from the cottage.

It is a one hour drive through Rogue-Siskiyou National Forest and Crater Lake National Park to reach the rim of Crater Lake.  There are many things to see along the way including Natural Bridge on the Rogue & Rogue River Gorge.  Historic Union Creek Resort offers Becky’s Café which specializes in Huckleberry Pie…a local favorite.  The small town of Prospect boasts Prospect Pizza, a small grocery and a gas station. A dinner house (seasonal) at the Prospect Historic Hotel and a small cafe are also available.

There is access to all aspects of the Wild and Scenic Rogue River from its headwaters  to the main river below Lost Creek Lake. There are areas for rafting novices as well as seasoned rafters and kayakers. There are fantastic views of the river and quiet, out of the way places to see and enjoy it.
